Well done to our residents and staff who created a fantastic seaside themed Showstopper Cake for The Great Nellsar Cake Off competition. We used a selection of seaside-themed decorations to dress our delicious lemon sponge.
We are delighted to have won first prize in the competition and we’ll receive a £200 prize for our Residents’ Fund, which is fantastic news! Well done everyone!

“We enjoyed discussing what cake we would make for the Great Nellsar Cake Off competition with our ladies and gents at Meyer House. Speaking with our residents, we asked for theme ideas for our cake entry. Designs they thought of were a garden, a rainbow and a seaside. The seaside theme was discussed further, and as none of us are going abroad this year, we are missing the idea of sun, sea and sand – so we eventually decided on a ‘Holiday in a Cake’.
Our residents helped to make the sponge cake and enjoyed mixing the ingredients. They also came up with decoration ideas including shells, sea, palm trees, sand and fishes (if you look closely you will see in the water, we tried to add fishes!). Our residents helped mould icing for the shells and assisted in cutting out the palm leaves for the trees. They also sprinkled the sand effect on the top. As the cake ideas evolved, Leigh dressed and tried to replicate their ideas, then finished the cake for us. Lemon sponge with butter cream, delightful!”
